Important skills developed through the use of Mathematics
Among the essential skills of Mathematics, the following have been observed:
• develop the correct use of the language of Mathematics
• develop number vocabulary, number concept and calculation and application skills
• learn to listen, communicate, think, reason logically and apply the mathematical knowledge gained
• learn to investigate, analyse, represent and interpret information
Cognitive and practical process and design skill
While the Beginning Knowledge in the Foundation Phase developed and matured into Natural Sciences and Technology as well as Social Sciences, the creative arts, physical education, including personal and social well-being continued to maintain momentum of further development in the intermediate phase.
Skills that learners will be able to develop in Natural Sciences and Technology, include the following:
- Accessing and recalling information
- Observing, Comparing, Measuring
- sorting and classifying
- Identifying problems and issues
- Planning and doing investigations
- Recording and interpreting information
- Designing, constructing and improving products, etc
Language skills such as reading and writing are essential elements of development in this phase.

Technology opens up learning path to Computer Applications Technology (CAT) and Information Technology streams.
Social Sciences introduce us to the concepts of Geography and History
Understanding Geography and History origins
History is about learning how past human action has an impact on the present and how it influences the future. Geography offers us a bridge between the human and physical sciences in the sense that it examines natural processes and features including the atmosphere, landforms, and ecosystems.
